Aultguish Inn (May 2012)

18-20 May 2012

DMC spent the weekend staying at the Aultguish Inn near Loch Glascarnoch.

On Friday night Berenice’s friend arrived and after a few pints in the bar we took two bedrooms, one for the snorers and the other for the ladies.

Saturday saw us all climbing An Teallach in full winter conditions. Luckily there was no ice, but there was a large amount of snow and plenty of cold. Sadly we hadn’t brought our winter gear, it being mid-May after all, so were unprepared for the challenging steep slopes without ice axes and crampons. With great care we traversed the two Munros plus Sgurr Creag an Eich then descended via Sgurr Ruadh. That wasn’t enough though so leaving the snow behind we then climbed Sail Mhor for panoramic views of the Summer Isles.

The evening meal started with Czech treats from Hana’s friends and fresh mussels courtesy of Juan. It was followed by salmon steaks and a classic Spanish dish gachas. Topped off with classic British Christmas pudding!

We split into two groups on Sunday, one climbing Beinn Enaiglair and the other walking into the Fannichs starting with Beinn Liath Mhor Fannich and Sgurr Mor then Carn na Criche and Meall a’Chrasgaidh.
