NoFuss Relentless24 MTB Endurance Event (Oct 2013)

For an extended weekend Niall, supported by Bill, tackled the Relentless 24 hour MTB endurance event.  Although the event start was at 12 noon on Saturday 19th, the trip actually began on Friday morning with a campervan trundling up the road to Fort William.  As well as Niall and Bill the van carried two bikes, extra wheels, umpteen spares and tools, and enough provisions to support a Victorian expedition to the far-flung corners of the world (or one mountain biker for 24 hours).

After arrival at the Nevis Range resort near Fort William, and once the base camp had been set up, Niall undertook an exploration of the trails.  The rest of the evening involved preparing for the following day’s activities including comprehensive instructions to team support (Bill) regarding preparation of energy drinks, apportioning of snacks and any mechanical maintenance if required.

An early start on Saturday involved event registration.  After some last minute preparations the team attended a briefing by event coordinators at 11am, which left a little time for a final rest before the midday start.

Instead of just reading about it, watch the following short video – it gives a better impression of what went on including Niall in action.

Just under twenty-four hours later Niall hangs up his pedals with a healthy set of lap times.

Later on Sunday, and after Niall had rested, the camper van was loaded. The car park was already a desert
with only a handful of die-hards hanging on for another night.

A much lighter van headed back to Dundee.
