In a mix of unbagged Munros and one-upmanship about interpreting the weather forecast across Scotland, 6 of us decided to travel to Loch Lomond for a winter ascent of Ben Vane. We had good weather and visibility until about half-way up, although we hear that the views might have been better in other parts of Scotland that day.… Then the fog set in, but luckily no wind to speak of. After only a short, cold lunch break on the summit plateau, we climbed (or in my case fell – most of the way, anyway) back down in time for a warming cup of tea at the Drover’s Inn. Back home for 7pm – ideal!
