Friday 14 – Sunday 16 November 2025
A very active full hill weekend in stunning Glen Etive in sunny weather, made particularly enjoyable given the weather in the rest of the country. Friday started with the first arrivals popping up to the ridge on Beinn Fionnlaidh to say hello, but deciding against a full blown wind swept adventure. As the others arrived many stopping first at the Tyndrum chipper, the hut filled up, the wood burning stove poured out the heat needed for Saturdays plans to emerge as everyone settled into the rhythm of the weekend.
Saturday saw everyone out on the hills. Some running over the snow and ice, one sauntering out the hut confident they would summit at the same time as the earlier risers (they did, well done), the others taking a little more time to savour the sting of wind on cheeks, the warmth of the sun on a winters day and the camaraderie of shared effort over snow-dusted hill tops.

Saturday night’s communal meal was an absolute winner. Chef and pudding chef ably supported by good preppers, table cleaners and kettle boilers. A hearty classic spag bol (veggie and meat versions) followed by date sticky toffee pudding with custard and or cream. After the wash up team got into action, stories and banter and flow of tea and whisky made clear that winter walking is not just about exploring the hills.
Sunday started tidying the hut. Then the departures, some straight back to Dundee others concluding their planned day out in Glen Etive of hills on the way home, there was a marked reluctance to leave the hill tops in such fine weather, but even then there were challenging underfoot conditions.
A successful meet recorded FOR the DMC.
