Harris not St.Kilda (Sep 2016)

2 September 2016

Present: Niall, Simon, Sarah, Kes, Pete M, Pete S + Parents, Franta and Lucka, Bill, Alec, Ross

Members and guests converged on Leverburgh in our attempt to visit the remote St Kilda Archipelago. Sadly high winds and high seas meant it was not possible to sail, however we made up for it with other activities.

Various ascents were made of the highest hill on Harris “An Cliseam” with Niall, Pete M, Sarah and Simon taking on the tough Horseshoe route, with a slight diversion for Niall to hitch a lift back to the car due to fading time, light and energy!

Pete Scott’s family Pizza Oven provided a fantastic DIY pizza session to recover the energy spent on the hills and to recover as the village hall was hosting a “Tidelines” gig as part of Mòd nan Eilean Siar; with some of the party leading the locals in a Conga line in the Wee Small Hours of the Saturday.

Despite the failure to sail everyone enjoyed themselves and found plenty to do with Calanais, Stornoway, a football match, the Heb Race on North Uist, the Butt of Lewis, Rogdail Church and many other sights/sites of interest were visited.

We’re all set for another attempt in May 2017, however no conga line can be guaranteed!
