Friday 7 – Sunday 9 April 2023
The Reiff peninsula holds very special memories for me but I’ve never actually been climbing there. The last time Dundee Mountain Club tried to organise a rockclimbing weekend here, it was rained off.
This Easter though the weather gods smiled on us and gave us three days of dry, if a little breezy, weather. Four of us headed up to camp at Altandhu and enjoy the wonderful climbing on the sea cliffs beyond Reiff.
Climbing highlights of the weekend may have been:
- Simon falling off what turned out to be an E4!
- Maddy leading a VS after backing off her first attempt.
- Nick feeling it all come together on his last lead of Saturday afternoon.
- And for me, getting to the top of a very small HS.
But the overall winner of the weekend has to be Saturday evening’s communal meal. We had hoped to dine in style in the Am Fuaran bar but, alas, it was fully booked! Between what supplies we had and a trip to the campsite shop, Maddy and Simon rustled up a wonderful camping feast.
