Kinloch Rannoch (Jan 2014)

17-19 January 2014

A wee jaunt up the A9 then a left turn towards the west brought us to the perfectly-situated village of Kinloch Rannoch from where, undaunted by the forecast of impending pouring rain, we set off for the summit of Beinn a Chuallaich. Despite lying slightly lower than Munro height, the summit cairn was one of the largest we’d seen, and it looked magnificent with a coat of snow and rime ice. However it was pretty much all that we could see in the thick mist. Fortunately for us Howard’s birthday coincided with the meet so we tucked into birthday cake as we planned our Sunday trips. New members Caya, Bruce and Rosana made it to the top of Schiehallion and, miraculously given the repeat of the thick mist, met up with Jim and Sarah out for the day. The group then descended in classic style on their bums in the snow. Others did a 15km circuit taking in the summit of Leagag in bright sunshine.
