Now over a year since we have been able to get together with fellow DMCers in shared accommodation, one of the highlights was definitely the Friday night social around the table in the Great Glen Hostel.
Although billed as ‘a ‘Slow Munro’ day, impending afternoon storms made for an early start and a speedier pace to get the best of the day to complete the Three Brethren starting at Cluanie Inn. It was a steep climb right from the get-go but once up it was easy going west along the grassy ridge with stunning views to the South Glenshiel Ridge on one side and Ben Attow on our right. After the second of the two Munros, Paul, Heinke, Isabel and Andy bravely headed off to bag the final Munro of the group, Saileag and Andrew and Ishbel and I dropped down via Meall na Charra. Luckily we were on the sunny side of the glen and the approaching gloom made for some dramatic views and we remained dry until a heavy shower on our descent. Andrew then popped down in the car to pick up the rest of the group who, in the short 5 minutes wait, had become a target for the local hoodlum gangs of midges.
Perfect timing.
