Friday 16th October – Sunday 18th October 2015
Who: Niall, Titch, Simon, Miguel, Justyna, Mhairi, Paul, Heather, Jane, Greg and Helen
With over half of the meet attendees taking up the option of staying Thursday night and fantastic weather both forecast and provided this meet turned into a 3 day epic.
On Friday, Niall returned to Beinn Dorain and Beinn Dothaidh after missing the first summit due to visibility conditions back in March and then finding playing in the snow on the way down too much fun to bother with Dothiadh! Simon and Miguel took on the Aonach Eagach meanwhile Titch, Mhairi and Justyna went into Glen Etive to climb Meall an Eun, Stob Coire Albainacaich
, Ghlas Beinn Mór, Beinn nan Aigenan and Ben Starav; all returning to wolf down all the Stovies Mhairir could have fitted in the Blackrock Fridge.
On Saturday a mass assault on the Buchaille Etive Mór, with Niall, Heather and Jane taking the tourist path; Mhairi, Helen and Greg on Curved Ridge; Simon, Miguel and Paul on Crowberry Ridge; and Titch and Justyna scaling Agag’s Grove.
Finally summiting 12 years after a first attempt with Allan was abandoned due to a hail storm at the col, Niall with Heather and Jane had agreed to wait for the Scrambling groups and we all met up on the busy summitl but Titch and Justyna were planning to spend the day climbing so we carried on along the ridge, with Paul, Helen, Miguel and Niall running to claim Stob na Bróige; with Greg being more sensible and walking it.
On Sunday things were taken a bit easer, so while Greg rested in the Cottage, Jane took a wander up to Black Corries lodge and Mhairi ran the Lairig Gartain.
Paul and Titch ran the Aonach Eagach and Niall, Simon, Miguel and Heather scaled Creise and Meal a Bhuiridh via Sron na Creise ignoring the advice of Heather’s guide which advised that Sron na Creise was “A Steep Scramble”; which it proved to be, but a very satisfying one even if I did spend 5 minutes figuring my way round a little puzzle that Heather had flown up.
All in all an absolutely fantastic weekend with stunning weather, roll on Raeburn…
