For her 1st DMC meet, Greg and Gaelle took Lindsey to Ben Earb (802m) in the Cairngorms. Not a Munro nor a Corbett but a Corbett Top of a Munro (for more details about the subtle difference, ask Greg).
So we started from Spittal of Glenshee along the Cateran trail which is a circular trail of 103 km with an interesting (but sad) history. Clear path to start with, blue sky, on the way Greg gave us some navigation exercises to do. 🙂
After reaching Cnoc an Cuinneige nice walk on the edge before going down to better hike up after! The ascent to reach Ben Earb was steep with a mix of soft/crusty snow but we eventually reached the trig point. Great view on the surrounding Munros that Greg recognised so easily. The closest one from us, Glas Tulaichean, fully recovered of snow.
Lindsey seems to really enjoy the sledge practice with ice axe on the way down, much faster and funnier. Back along the trail to finish gently into a wood and have a final picture among the local wildlife (the sheep). Finally about 10-11 km, 500 m total ascent.
With sun all along the day – so enjoyable.
