Christmas 2013, Braemar (Dec 2013)

Friday 13 – Sunday 15 December 2013

As usual DMC’s Christmas meet was held in the Southern Cairngorms, but this year we booked out the SYHA hostel building in Braemar rather than staying at Muir Cottage down near the Linn of Dee, to give us a bit more space. It was a good call since over 30 folks came along, far more than the capacity of Muir Cottage!

The change of accommodation wasn’t the only difference this year, as this picture shows:

Indeed, there was not only no snow at all for the skiers, but the >100mph winds kept us off the higher hills altogether. That didn’t stop us making the most of the weekend though – the mountain bikers had fun on the valley tracks and the walkers headed out on some lower level routes ranging from a round trip from the Linn of Dee to Corrour bothy to a trip up Glen Lui through the Clais Fhearnaig to the top of Glen Quoich and down to the Linn of Quoich.

As usual we all enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies followed by the traditional full Xmas dinner in the hostel afterwards – soup starter followed by turkey, stuffing roast veg and all the trimmings, and Xmas pudding with hot brandy sauce. Followed up of course by more mince pies and mulled wine afterwards 🙂
