We tried Plan A, we tried Plan B, what I think we actually walked was probably Plan B 2 prime. The road up to Glenshee Ski Centre was impassable with fresh snow so we started up Glen Lochsie from the Spittal in a snowstorm. A cuddly sheepdog advised us against Ben Earb in 60mph winds so we opted for the Cateran Trail. The views from the col at 650m were stunning – blue skies, fresh snow, and wonderful light on the surrounding landscape. Above 700m the wind conditions severely reduced the fun factor and the risk of losing fingers to frostbite convinced us that coffee and cake in Blairgowrie would be a nice end to the day.
