Saturday 14th – Sunday 15th Sepember 2013
Eight go Wild on Mountain Bikes
Chapter 1.
The adventure began on Saturday morning at around 8 o’ clock when Carmen, Richard, Alex, Niall, Dan and Bill left Dundee. We arrived at Golspie in really good weather and met Suzy and Roy in the car park of the Highland Wildcat MTB tracks at Benvraggie woods. As soon as the bikes were unpacked we all headed up the track. Carmen and Bill took the Red while the rest of the gang tackled the Black.
Later, after a snack in the carpark, we again headed back up the hill. Alex, Dan, Richard, Roy and Suzy go for the Black again while Niall tackles the Red three times overtaking Carmen and Bill in the process.
After the day’s achievements, we head to the hostel, an unusual collection of converted railway carriages at Rogart railway station. On arrival it appeared to have been invaded by a horde of French Hell’s Angels but these Gallic visitors turned out to be a cheerful bunch and added some colour to the local pub during our evening meal.
Later that evening we retired to the carriage accommodation where Niall kindly read us all a bedtime rhyme.
Chapter 2.
Sunday morning started very wet as six of us headed off to hunt down breakfast. Luckily Asda provided the mountain of sustenance we needed for Learnie Red Rock Trails. At Learnie we all head up Blue trails before attacking the Orange Graded Freeride – twice. Alex gets a puncture but isn’t downed for long and heads off with Dan for more while the rest of us call it a day and head back to Dundee.
