Friday 1 December 2023
Due to Jasmin having Friday off and me always doing most of my hiking during the week we arranged to get out in the hills. We pondered where to go and due to favourable weather forecasts with light winds we opted for Spidean Mialach and Gleouraich in the Northwest. The dreaded 3am alarm got me up in time to pick up Jasmin at 4am for our long drive ahead.
We made good time and set of on our hike before 8am in the semi light. The skies were clear as we set of for our 1st Munro Spidean Mialach with wonderful views all around. Of course by the time we summited the dreaded clouds had appeared spoiling our summit views. Oh well of to our next stop the subsidiary top of Craig Coire Na Fiar Bhealaich, maybe the clouds will clear by then.
The clouds did clear as we walked between the 2 summits but now as we reached the top they were back. Of to our 2nd Munro Gleouraich. This time the clouds lingered about and it just seemed like one of those days as we reached the summit. But wait, hang on, the clouds starting to move and the skies cleared. Great views all around as far as Knoydart, the Nevis range and the South Shiel Ridge. As an added bonus we were treated to a Broken Spectre. With all this we didn’t want to but reluctantly left the summit to make our way back to the car and the long journey home. Great day out with great company.
