19 July – 21 July 2013
A weekend of fine weather but just a little too hot for comfort!
Arriving at Kinlochewe by Friday lunchtime allowed a satisfying walk to climb Ruadh-stac Beag from the visitor centre (8 hours), highlights being the walk up the river gorge, sensational views of Beinn Eighe from the summit and a long contouring traverse back out to the trail path.
At the Ling Hut we had the company of 3 SMC members for the Friday night. Saturday saw another early start, sloping off before the sun and others were up. Headed up onto Beinn Liath Mhor and took in the corbett tops on the main ridge before descending to the Lochan Uaine and onto the Sgurr nan (corbett) bearing its name. Sensational views all day but too sweaty and tired to contemplate Sgurr Dubh (the other corbett). A long descent finally returned me to the comforts and cool of the hut and sunny breeze outside (10.5 hours). Others had been on Liathach, Beinn Eighe or cycling (Coulin Forest and Applecross). The lion’s share of us enjoyed a bolognaise/casserole mix with Yumiko’s salads and some chocolate cake before an early night. Awoke early again on the Sunday and simply headed for home as plans for two further days on the hill melted in the prospect of more scorchio, scorchio and sore feet.

There was also lots of other action that weekend despite the crazy temperature including lots of insane mountain biking activity and a classic traverse of the Liathach.
